Beans or CARTUCHILLOS, are legumes. Dark green sheath, smooth, shiny, soft or velvety. Firm grains, not soft or sprouted. Lighter green color, large plain, flat and elongated.


It can be seen, in its firm sheath to the touch, (not soft or with wet spots), with tiny villi. -They also sell it already desgranada (without sheath), but usually they are not so fresh. -or dehydrated with or without salt.  These are kept at room temperature. (See dehydrated products).

When you go to buy the product in the supermarket, we recommend:

  • Observe that the display site is clean and adequately refrigerated.
  • Choose the products, preferably in this order: vegetables, fruits, eggs, cheeses and dairy in general, after the products of pantry, but before the meats, poultry, fish and shellfish.
  • When you reach your destination refrigerate, so that the “cold chain” of the same is not interrupted.


Beans are used for soups, stews, purées and stews.


-the beans that are still in the sheath, refrigerate in closed plastic bag with absorbent paper (dry) inside. -The grenades, have less “shelf life”, should be spent soon or frozen clean and dry. -they can be bought in a well-fresh pod, then shelled and frozen. Refrigerated in pods, 8-10 days. Refrigerated desgrenades, 7 days approximately so that no sprouts begin to emerge. Frozen grenades, 3 months or more. Its duration also depends on the freshness at the time of your purchase.


Cool. Freeze.


8-10 days. Seven days. Three months.


Those for freezing can be placed all in the same bag and take out those that are needed, because they do not stick (if they are not wet). It also shortens the cooking time when frozen.

Nutrients and properties:

Do not freeze with pod. -periodically check the condition of the product, its storage and conservation, to be able to consume it in time.
